I never planned this…

From college day, I was so envious of my friends that could just go to Primark, Claires accessories or the market and buy jewellery without any worries about their skin reacting badly. All I wanted was the same thing, affordable pieces that I could wear without worrying about my sensitive skin!

In 2019 completely annoyed seeing other females in my life rocking dope affordable jewellery & finding out I couldn’t wear it (lack of options for sensitive skin).  I set out to find some pieces that I could not only wear 24/7 but also represented me as a black female and creative.

After not finding any, I decided to see if I could be the change I wanted to see. I wanted to see if I could source and create pieces for myself.

I experimented with so manufactures and became my own test subject for over a year. I tested chains, rings, earrings, anklets you name it, I tried it & had multiple bad reactions, (my poor body, went through it) and finally found 3 great manufactures and I started designing pieces for myself!

I got so many complements from people I knew which was great but when people I didn't know would say 'If you decide to start selling let me know…’ that when I said ‘ok let me create a very small batch of black affirmation chains, release them on Instagram and see how they do’ Thinking to myself if they didn't sell I could give them to people I knew as gifts.

June 25th 2020, 25 pieces sold out in 12 hours, in the middle of a pandemic. I was not expecting that at all and two months later August 2020 'STMNT Peace' was officially born.

I have come to realise by talking to my community that SO many African and Caribbean countries map chains are not sold anywhere and that was one of the reasons I started, I could never find a Nigeria map chain. So STMNT Peace filled that gap too!

Now I’m able to help Black girl, women (and some men too) feel like that can express themselves and affirm their greatness to the world but more importantly to ourselves. The best part is so many purchase peaces to gift to wife’s, Sisters, Friends, Mothers Girlfriends, siblings nieces and children.

I just LOVE that so many of us can represent ourselves in a way I once only imagined!

The journey has just started but the mission is in motion. I have a lot more to learn and create but I am enjoying the journey and discoveries.
